Edit: The issue I describe below was most likely caused by me having a Retro Replay cartridge inserted while playing the game.  Gregor told me that he recommends against this.  Removing the cart and replaying the game I managed to finish it without the game freezing up when saving.  Thank you to Gregor for his incredibly quick and helpful support.  Rating changed to 5 stars.

Original Post:

While I have enjoyed playing this game as much, if not more than, the previous two, I have twice experienced a game breaking bug that prevented me from completing the game.  The bug occurs when using the save game feature late in the game, after I have collected all three artefacts and am moving towards the final showdown.  Pressing F5, the disk activity starts and after a few seconds the disk head movement stops, BUT the disk keeps spinning and never stops.  The game just keeps displaying "Saving"  I have to restart my C64 and the game to resume and then pressing L to load the saved game from the title screen menu ends abruptly as the saved game has been corrupted.  Incredibly frustrating as I had fully mapped the game and very much wanted to see the ending.

As it is I really can't recommend the game as it is brutally difficult to complete without saves due to the mostly random nature of combat.

I should note that I'm playing this on an Ultimate64 with the latest firmware.

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear, that you encountered a problem.
I have to say that you are the first person who is reporting an issue like this. But I'm taking this serious and will try to investigate and reproduce it. For this, I would like to have some more details. Could you be so kind and reach out via email -> kontakt@retroarts.de THX!

Aside of that and the fact that the combat is partially random based, the game is not so hard as some people think. The idea is to build and refine a strategy with each attempt. Personally, I'm able to win about 8 of 10 rounds. Sometimes you may have an unlucky round, but with the right tactic everyone should be able to master the game within 2-3 rounds.
As an idea, try to get better weapons, potions and spells first and use escape! Escape is crucial at some points! Many people ignore that, that's not a good tactic. Every new game should be handled on thinking of a new way. Don't repeat the same tactic. Just to give some ideas about mastering the game without ignoring your save issue. Maybe this helps :-)

A great sequel to a great game. I've included it in my new "Gameplay of New C64 Games from March 2025" video, along with other recently released games. I hope you enjoy the video.

Thank you very much! :-)

Keep up the good work!

Thanks! :-)

Awesome game!

As I bought the physical version, I got an early access to the game. It is as good as - maybe even better - than Evil Dungeon 1 and 2.

I recorded a small video - gameplay starts at 09:50 - of it. I died after 10 minutes of playing.

Enjoy!

I mapped around 16-17 rooms before getting killed by a demon. Not bad for the second play :)

I'll try to do my best in another play :)

Edit: I  try twice to make a map of my play,...
But I got some rooms where there should be not... I'll wait for a map to be published...

Or I'll try a third time to make a working map :)

Keep in mind, portals could transport you everywhere! ;-)
And don't forget, Valeria is a mage. Wand combat should not be the first option ;-) Build a strategy based on your map, where to go first.

I did not reach portals in my plays. I use both magic and non magic attacks.  And I tried - when I'll get some spare time this weekend - to map correctly the academy.

Yeah... as far as I get, I saw a notice when clicking that says "Watching this video may reveal your IP address to others" but I thought that "Peertube" site is not really trusty because of it.

Lucky I haven't clicked on the play button, but the gameplay, as far as it goes, is good...

Peertube is a small clone of Youtube, working with hundreds of instances linked to each other. And when you're browsing the web, you're more "spied" than on a peertube instance... And being on internet since 1997 show me how many infos I shared without knowing it.
